Party Shoes Acrylic on Watercolor Paper

Trying something different today both with subject and materials. This 4" x 6" acrylic painting on watercolor paper was one of several "warm-ups". My very talented artist friend Rebecca liked this one best. Thanks for painting with me today, Rebecca; sooo fun.

Apple Anxiety Acrylic Still Life By Amy Whitehouse

8"x16" Contemporary Still Life
This painting was inspired by Cezanne's famous "Five Apples" painting which I had the privilege to view Friday at the Phoenix Art Museum. We are fortunate to have such a marvelous art museum in our backyard. Highly recommended.

Sedona Cabin Oil Landscape By Amy Whitehouse

This little painting was done en plein aire (fancy was to say "outside") in Sedona at The Garlands 2 falls ago. I didn't get to paint today, I missed it greatly, hope to get in my studio tomorrow. It's been a couple of years since we've been to Sedona and I love this time of year up there. Faith is playing her cello in the next room and it's such a treat. She began playing in the church orchestra today and I'm so happy about that.

Maui Palms Acrylic Landscape By Amy Whitehouse

8"x10" Acrylic Landscape with Palm Trees, $125
Lots of teaching today which is so exciting for me. I LOVE to see people discover new ways to work with art materials. All boys today, each one a fine young man. Anyway this little piece is another one done with negative painting which continues to hold my interest. The bold colors seem to come naturally even though I like viewing more neutral paintings by other artists. Thanks for stopping by!

Man in Canoe Watercolor By Amy Whitehouse

12"x16" Watercolor Landscape, $75
I've been trying to teach myself how to paint in watercolor off and on for years. Today I tried a "poured" watercolor method for all parts except the figure and the canoe. I also taught 2 painting classes today so I had a good day. PLUS the temps got under 90 degrees - So exciting!!

Florida

This painting is 11" x 14", in oil and was done in a dream-like state with no preconceived ideas of what the picture would be. I guess I have a fond affection for palms.
Yesterday my friend Jean treated me to a lovely morning: she made delicious blueberry pancakes and served on elegant china, had gifts for me to open, then took me out for a pedicure. AND thanked me for MY friendship! I am greatly blessed.

Minnesota Days Oil Landscape By Amy Whitehouse

24"x30"x1-1/2"This painting is a made-up place and could be anywhere; for some reason it reminds me of Minnesota and a friend agreed, hence the title. So I am really thankful to be home tonight with my family; what a day I had: started with me needing to kill a scorpion (red) in Katie's room, cried in church because the message was too relevant, and climaxed at Trader Joe's where I happily shopped until it was time to look for my keys. Yep, I had locked the keys in the car AND LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING. Talk about frazzled. AAA saved me and the rest of the day was great.

Practice Hospitality II Acrylic Painting By Amy Whitehouse

12"x16" Acrylic Still Life With Fruit
I enjoy doing loose, spontaneous, broad stroke paintings. I also added some shading with a paint pen; never tire of mixing media. Finished this a couple of days ago, or was it yesterday? Got a lot accomplished yesterday, so made up for it today. It's all about balance, right?

Grandmother's Roses Oil And Acrylic Painting

This little painting was finished today just before I began teaching a watercolor class to some lovely young women. For all you Phoenicians, I know it's no big deal, but at 5:25 it was 108 degrees, by 7:25 it had cooled down to 102. WOW. Is there a poem about "Come forth now Autumn"? Maybe I'll write one, I might just be hot enough to be inspired. Air conditioning is one of the best inventions ever. Back to the painting: breaking a cardinal rule, this one has oil AND acrylic paint. I love breaking rules. $150

Take Time to Play

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 24" Blues and Greens go so well together, don't they? This painting depicts a playful attitude - at least...
