Miami Beach IV Acrylic Painting By Amy Whitehouse

30"x30"x1-1/2" Palm Tree Landscape on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, $500
This past week I haven't painted much and it's making me crabby! Hope to finish a large commissioned piece tomorrow and be able to post it. An ambitious concept as I have a ways to go with it. Will begin teaching my art students soon and look forward to that so much. Thanks for taking a look. Some have asked how to get my blog daily automatically in their e-mail: I have no idea, but if anyone does I'd appreciate your help.

Florida View Mixed Media Painting By Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Beach Scene - $475
This is a painting done from memories of Atlantic Beach, FL, just north of Jax Beach. Now that I'm posting it, I see something I want to change (of course). Anyhow, this is a great beach with gorgeous homes and I'm there til it cools off here. (In my mind.)

Tulips And Teapot Mixed Media By Amy Whitehouse

I've been doing painting in my dreams for some time now; maybe I need to think more about what I'm doing? Anyway, was fortunate to paint with a fellow artist today and thank God for the encouragement given. Will start teaching four (!) painting classes each week soon and am apprehensive about keeping up with everything. Thanks for visiting my blog and taking a look...

Cabo II

This little 6" x 8" oil painting was painted from a view in an upper level condo in Cabo. I painted it with brushes and palette knife and wish I could go back to do Cabo III en plein aire. $125

Elegance - Oil Floral Still Life By Amy Whitehouse

This 11" x 14" Oil Painting has a contemporary but stately demeanor. It's been a challenge to paint the past few days; maybe I just need some autumn air? Also, trying to design a couple of large commissions. Seeking inspiration.

Red Bell Pepper Oil Still Life By Amy Whitehouse

5"x5"x1-1/2" Oil Painting
Red bell peppers are so appealing - their structure, their color with complimentary green top, and of course with homemade vinagrette. $125

Aspens Mixed Media Contemporary Landscape

16" x 20" Mixed Media Painting On Stretched Canvas
This painting evolved through many permutations and layers over the span of about 6 weeks. It contains paper, acryic paint, pencil, and maybe other things too. Because so many people have asked about my prices, I'm thinking about including the sale price when I post a new painting. This one sells for $500, it's ready to hang, no frame needed. I like the textured surface because it invites you to touch as well as gaze.

Tulip Explosion

9" x 12" Oil Painting
Imagined bunch of tulips in a cobalt blue vase, contemporary look, I like the expressiveness. It's fun to break the rules, paint without an idea in mind, and every now and then, it works!

Fall Leaves Acrylic Landscape Autumn Scene

8" x 10" Acrylic Painting on Wood Panel
This began as a negative painting (that is, painting the air around the subject and carving out the trees with blue paint), and then the leaves and gold were added later. It's difficult to homeschool and paint in the same day, and teach piano lessons, make dinner, etc. No surprise, I just wanted to say it. Anyway....Katie and I need to do more art and less spelling?

Cello Imagined - Mixed Media Painting By Amy Whitehouse

11" x 14" Mixed Media on Canvas Panel
Inspired by my daughter's love of her cello, this painting went through many phases, and I took a few months to finalize it.
SO much fun playing with soft gel gloss and various papers/paints. Thanks for visiting!

Ormond Beach, FL

24" x 30" x 1-1/2" Oil On Gallery Wrapped Canvas
This is perhaps my favorite beach in all the world. Fortunately I get to go there every couple of years or so.
Finding it quite hard to find time to paint and homeschool; no big surprise there, just wanted to vent a bit. Anyway, this painting was done a few months ago. I hope to paint some new ones this next week. Thanks for dropping by my blog!!!

Desert Beauties

20"x20" Oil and Acrylic
This is one of my favorites. Having moved to the southwest desert some 17 years ago, I continue to be enthralled when the desert blooms. The flowers still seem unreal.
Book to recommend: IT WAS GOOD: MAKING ART TO THE GLORY OF GOD
Containing 21 essays by as many artists, this is an intelligent and challenging read. This morning while Katie was doing her reading, I read the chapter by Charlie Peacock. One of the many passages that impressed me: "...love should also be at the heart of all excellent art created by disciples of Jesus. This is the most excellent way. An artist filled with the Spirit, skill, and ability, asking what it means to love the Church and the watching world as one uniquely gifted, is likely an artist who is making the invisible visible." That's what I want to be!

A Walk In The Park Landscape Contemporary By Amy Whitehouse

6" x 12"
I have to remember to varnish my paintings AFTER I photograph them or I always get a glare as on this one. Anyway, poured paint, pallette knife, negative painting and I love the colors. Today was the first official day of homeschooling; not exactly a walk in the park. But it will be good.

Crayon Flowers

This 11" x 14" Contemporary Floral is Painted on Panel
This was a fun one to finish.

Paris Walk

This painting went through several stages and I had no picture in my mind, just started applying paint with knife, brush, and straight from the tube. It makes me think of a pathway in the Tuileries Gardens from my student days in Paris (1973). I love the texture and colors.

One More Sunflower

This 12" x 16" Acrylic Floral just happened and I know it's very similar to a recent one that's 16" x 20". This seems to be the season of migraines for me, so I'm just happy to paint at all - it gets my mind off the hurt! (I really do need to live at the beach.)

Beach

"Strange to think of being grounded by water, but that is exactly what happens to me when I am near the ocean." - Dominique Browning, Slow Love

Garden Scene Acrylic Painting By Scottsdale Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Acrylic Floral Painting
Acrylic on Oil, a big no-no, just what I love to do!

Lovely Trees

8" x 24" Acrylic Landscape
God's creation provides endless inspiration, and I'm pleased with how this landscape turned out. It has a whimsical flair and nice texture, and for some reason it just makes me happy.

Take Time to Play

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 24" Blues and Greens go so well together, don't they? This painting depicts a playful attitude - at least...
