Palm Trees Are Beckoning

16" x 20" Acrylic Mixed Media
It feels like it's been a long hot summer. I long to go to the beach and breathe in some fresh salt air. This painting may be my favorite of the summer. It began by pouring some Nickel Azo Yellow (Golden Fluid Acrylic) on a stretched canvas prepared with Orange all over. After pouring a little I looked for an image from the random pour. What do you know I saw palm tree tops! Imagine that. Anyway I spent several days refining it, adding a little collage paper to some trunks, trying things and painting over, til I was happy with it. I wish I could spend all day in my studio, but then I would miss my time with the girls....if only I didn't have to sleep I could have it all.

Finally, there is one spot left for my homeschool art class.
Please let me know ASAP if you want details or if you're ready to sign up. Thanks!

Palms In Sun

This bright landscape of palm trees was a blast to paint. Mostly painted with a palette knife, I made it up as I went along; is that called "intuitive painting"? Anyhoo, it's a 24" square gallery-wrapped canvas with painted sides, ready to hang, no frame needed. Painting the beach, palm trees, anything related to the ocean...helps my mental state during our lovely monsoon season. Thanks for taking a look.

Fruit Bowl

12" x 16" Oil Painting
This still life was painted from a setup I had concocted for my students. After helping them "see" their version of the still life, and after helping them gather their things to go home, I had to try it out myself. I love teaching.

Beach Dreams

So, we're supposed to be with Mark's family at Ormond Beach in FL this week. We are missing them and the beautiful ocean and beach there pretty much. I think I've done 4 palm tree paintings in the last 4 days. Yes, I am feeling a little sorry for myself, but I'll get over it. This little guy is a 6" x 8" acrylic painting that was "sculpted" by painting the negative space around random patches of color.

Fresh Flowers

This 24" x 30" acrylic painting was finished this afternoon amidst family commotion. So much for creative solitude! I'm pleased with the colors, textures, and composition and consider it a "representational abstract." To purchase, contact me at amy.whitehouse@me.com
And to view more of my artwork, please visit amywhitehousepaintings.com
Of course you know that since you are kindly visiting my blog! Thank you.

Desert Find Acrylic Southwest Landscape by Amy Whitehouse

20"x20" Acrylic Southwest Landscape Painting
Painting for hours each day lately and loving it so much. Decided the new paintings were not quite finished, but they should be by tomorrow. Friends gave me fresh flowers today which I'm painting on a 24" x 30" wrapped gallery canvas; I have a good beginning, but now is the hard part: not screwing it up!

Cassie Dog Portrait Oil Painting By Amy Whitehouse

Dear friends commissioned me to paint their beloved Golden, Cassie. Always a challenge, but they claim I captured her. YAY!
Tomorrow I'll shoot a couple of paintings I did this past week, they are experimental! Not traditional, and WAY FUN to paint.

Famed photographer Art Cordova was kind to shoot me with one of my landscapes. Thanks, brother!

Brushes

6" x 8" Oil Painting
I did not get to paint today, so I'm posting one of my favorite little "old" paintings. What I did get to do was attend my daughter's string quartet concert, and it was super good! Also, we attended a very beautiful wedding of dear young friends; it was truly an honor to witness the commitment this couple made in the Lord. Well done, Cottrell family! We love you!

Celebration Time

5" x 7" Oil
Well, it's still about 114 degrees and no sign of rain. Still, it's always good to celebrate. We will have dinner with dear friends tonight and hope the AC stays on. Was delighted to finish a couple of paintings today.

Poems In Our Shadows Mixed Media Art by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10" acrylic mixed media painting
gallery wrapped with finished edges, ready to hang
This painting was refreshing to do during this summer season in the desert. The other day it was 114 degrees outside, so a wintry subject is tempting. I love mixed media projects, using pieces of music and other found papers. Thanks for viewing!"mailto:amy.whitehouse@me.com">
