Poppies, Contemporary Landscape and Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

4" x 6", Acrylic, $95

Red poppies burst out from green surroundings
with complimentary colors adding to the energy.
I'm always trying to find a between-representational-and-abstract
location in artwork.
It's a challenge.

Evergreen 3, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10" Acrylic on Canvas Panel, $60

This contemporary rendition of an evergreen tree has
lots of texture and gold flecks
that are difficult to capture with the camera.
The white acrylic paint was added to tar gel
in order to "drip" the snow atop the branches,
a bit like making a sand castle with drippy wet sand.

Christmas Tree, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 6" x 1.5", Oil, $60

This contemporary tree, painted with juicy R&F pigment sticks,
is my favorite tree I've painted so far.  I like the loose
brushstrokes, the few bright red spots, and the gold light peeking through
the warm white background.
The result is a freshness, like a brisk day in northern climes.
(And I'm happy to paint that illusion; having experienced it enough
living in Illinois, New York, and Germany.)

Land of Enchantment, Southwest Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

12" x 16", Oil on Stretched Canvas, $295

Painted with juicy R&F pigment sticks,
this landscape painting says New Mexico to me.
I don't understand how the sky can "be bigger" here
in the Southwest,
but for this kid from Florida, it truly is.
The clouds are enormous, the land goes on and on,
the distant mountains are luscious.

Baby Barrel Cactus, Southwest Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 8", Oil, $95

This little baby was painted a few months ago after a trip to
Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.
It's time to go again and see the luminarias and the new exhibit
by Chihuly, and drink warm cider, and hear live music.
I enjoy the test of capturing the desert beauties.
Please contact me if you would like to purchase this little guy:

The light and clouds over the ocean never cease to grab my attention.

Christmas Tree, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 6" x 1.5", Oil, $50

Painted with creamy pure oil sticks (R&F),
this was simply fun to paint a simple
but substantial looking evergreen
with just a few decorative colors.
The 1.5" sides are painted in the same background color.

Flowers in My Dreams, Contemporary Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 8", Oil, $125

This little piece has a dream-like quality to me, hence the title.
Painting intuitively, just playing with paint and colors and textures,
and then seeing what happens is the most contemplative and enjoyable
artwork for me.
I have been sorting, packing, entering into changing-homes-mode,
so quite preoccupied and too busy for the goodness of making art.
But scheduling a couple of hours tomorrow for said healthy pursuit.
Let me know if you'd like this one; it's framed in brushed silver.

Take Time to Play

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 24" Blues and Greens go so well together, don't they? This painting depicts a playful attitude - at least...
