Born Identity Mixed Media Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

Acrylic Paints and Collage

I have been playing with paper, scissors, and glue again.
Just can't help myself.  I wish I had some deep reason for making this painting,
but I just wanted to play.
Perhaps that will inspire YOU to play and see how good it feels.

As we celebrate Memorial Day, may we all remember the brave ones
who gave their very lives for our freedom.
(Read Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and be amazed.)
And may we remember to pray for the present-day brave ones.

Orange Umbrella Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

Oil on Canvas

Life has been C.R.A.Z.Y.
Dentist appointments galore, DMV ridiculousness,
dear friends with fears and pain,
teenagers with teenage-ness,
111 degrees in May.

Painting ocean scenes provides some serenity
amidst the vagaries of life.
This one has painted 1.5" edges, ready to hang and enjoy.

If interested in buying this piece, please contact me at

Scottsdale Backyard Southwest Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

Oil on Canvas, 4.5" x 8," $150

This literally was the backyard of my friend who allowed me to
come over one day and paint outside, and then treated me to a lovely lunch
she had been making while I was painting.
It isn't too far from where our house is, but we don't have that kind of view.

This painting is custom-framed.

Waiting My Turn at the DMV

12"x16" Oil on Canvas, $89

I started this painting several weeks ago
in Logan Hagege's workshop at Scottsdale Artist School.
Just finished it up this past week and all I could think of is the DMV.

Mostly I've been working on a few landscapes, taking my time on each one,
revisiting one and contemplating what would make it a better painting,
and then trying something.
I'm very interested in the overall image
as well as what is happening with previous layers on the canvas.
I supposed that's a 3D and a 2D dual purpose?

If interested in purchasing this painting,
please contact me at
This painting is priced low since it was done within a workshop.

Any American Idol fans out there?
I only watched the season when our own Scott MacIntyre made it to the finals.
You may remember him as the blind contestant, the first "disabled" contestant on the show.
I am reading his memoir now, By Faith, Not By Sight, and am being inspired in so many ways.
Scott has faced many obstacles in his life including stage four renal failure.
I have the honor of calling his kidney donor my friend.  God used Patricia to save Scott's life.
Scott's message is that your dreams can come to fruition, and that  God is our
ever-present help.  Read his book, you won't be sorry.

Joyful Trees, Contemporary Just For Fun Tree Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8"x24"x3/4" Acrylic

15 more days of CHALLENGE 60

This was a really fun piece to create.
I painted random fun colors all over the canvas, then took the sky color
and sculpted the composition by painting the negative space.
Really good brain work since I'm painting opposite the regular way.
The edges are painted so it's ready to hang with a long thumbtack.

White Bowl with Apples Still Life Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

Apples on White Cloth
20"x24", Oil on Canvas

This is a traditional still life painted in oil on canvas, a large piece for a small price,
being an offering for my CHALLENGE 60
which lasts 18 more days -
then everything goes back to normal pricing.
To purchase please contact me at

Please see several paintings listed for $60 under CHALLENGE 60 Page above
priced at $60 for 18 more days.
I would love to sell everything and thereby have all of us generously
help a family we know who could use some bolstering.

I have so many paintings in my head to put to canvas.
It's a little crazy in there (my head) but definitely stimulating.
For direction I am thinking about
my new favorite art book:
Len Chmiel - An Authentic Nature,
a stunning collection of awesome paintings.
Chmiel was influenced by Don Putman who
"emphasized the importance of painting for individual fulfillment over art-world expectations:
'I paint to please myself and the pleasure is contagious.'"
This resonates with me.

Six Apples in a Row Contemporary Still Life Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

10"x20" Canvas Panel, Oil and Acrylic, $60
Today is Day 41 of CHALLENGE 60,
so for 19 more days I have several paintings
priced at $60 for my private fundraiser
for friends in need of financial help and emotional support.
A huge thank you to those who have purchased from this
endeavor of mine.
Together we have been able to give around $300 to unexpecting recipients, whose eyes fill with tears
that strangers are donating money to their cause.
Their "cause" is their precious child who spent 5 weeks in ICU
with several extremely serious, life-threatening issues.
She is recovering but has a long way to go.

Also a plug for Village Coffee Roastery who has THE BEST COFFEE, LATTES, CAPPACINOS, and
Go to 8129 N. Hayden Rd. #E104, tell them Amy Whitehouse sent you -
and I'm sure you'll get the royal treatment - and they'll say "You mean Amy Winehouse?  I thought she died."  And the erudite conversation will take off from there.

I went in Monday, that would have been yesterday, well it just turned into Wednesday which means I'm up way too late.  Anyway I was cheerfully greeted with,
"You sold another painting, Amy!"
I just love going there.

Large Aspen Stand Mixed Media Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

Aspen Stand, Mixed Media, 24"x30", $185
This painting has many layers of specialty papers, acrylic paint, drawing pencils, and even some iridescent paint.

If you are interested in grabbing this large stunning painting,
do so in the next 20 days before the price goes back to normal.
As I am attempting to raise funds for our family friends who are "going through it", my prices during this 60 Day CHALLENGE have been affordable for everyone.
So all can have a part in helping a family in need, as well as own an original painting.
Choose one that you love, not one that will "go" with the house or the room, but one that speaks to you and makes you happy to look at.

As always you can contact me for purchasing:

Afternoon Storm Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16"x20" Acrylic on Canvas, $229

Yesterday after my painting students went home,
there were palettes of leftover acrylic paint.
I cannot abide throwing away perfectly good paint,
and haven't found a way to save acrylic paint once it's been squeezed out.
So, I always try to paint something with the paint they left.

Obviously I'm taken with clouds these days.
Joni Mitchell?  1970?
I'm also longing for the beach
to which I will fly in July.

I'm sending my paints and canvases ahead of me
and hope to do some plein aire paintings of the Florida coastline.
The California coast is closer, but our families' roots are in Florida,
so we gather together each July there,
from Virginia, Arkansas, Texas, and Arizona.

Florida Grouper and hushpuppies and iced tea.
That's all I want.

Acorn Squash Contemporary Still Life & Kitchen Art

11"x14", Oil, $60
Day 38 of CHALLENGE 60

Today I had the pleasure of seeing "my family"
for whom I have set this challenge.
The child who was in so much danger and went through
so much suffering is doing well.
I know my contributions to their staggering costs
are just a couple of drops in the bucket.
But it changes me to do something for someone else
when they are not expecting anything,
and I have to believe that even the gesture
encourages them.

Please see the several paintings listed for $60 in the
CHALLENGE 60 section above.
I hope you'll find something in the next 22 days
that you can keep or give
and help contribute a drop of love and compassion.

Let me know if you would like to purchase this painting:

Moonlight Waves Night Scene Seascape by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

I worked on a seascape painting this evening for a couple of hours...
and it was boring.
So I decided to do something with a little more ooomph.
I may do a tiny stroke here or there tomorrow, but mostly I'm happy with it.

10"x10"x1.5" Oil on Canvas

If interested in buying this ocean night scene,
please contact me at

My daughter Rachel and I took a day trip to
Carefree, Arizona, for lunch today.
One of my favorite places to go for a real treat
is Cafe Bink in Carefree.

It's very Parisian in feel, and the food is outstanding.
A beautiful day, a lovely ride, a perfect getaway with Rachel.
We decided we should live in Carefree just for the address.

And yes, I did share them with my family, and yes, they were scrumptious.
