Jazz Notes developed over a few weeks

of laying down swaths of color in the 

secondary triad:

violet, orange, and green.

I then added some shapes I like,

as well as some lines,

striving to achieve movement and interest.

Using a limited palette of cadmium orange,

cadmium green, mauve blue,

and black & white,

I finished this painting today.

I love the open clean white space,

the happy colors,

the subtle mark-making.

It makes me feel light and joyful.

Joy in the Morning

I'm choosing joy in the morning

even when I don't feel it.

This happy painting lifts MY spirits.

Making Space

Oil, approx. 5" x 7"

This miniature abstract was painted with black,

white, dioxazine purple, and

cadmium yellow light.

(Mixing the yellow with black makes green.)

I wanted to keep it simple

especially since it was on such a small support.

Using a limited palette of Cobalt Blue 

and Cadmium Yellow Light,

Black and White,

I used vertical columns to reach up.

There is also the small surprise color of orange,

the complement of blue.

I like the airy feeling,

the stretch of the colors,

and the small areas of interest.
