Beach, Acrylic Beach and Ocean Paintings by Amy Whitehouse

Acrylic, 20"x24" $800

This started as an abstract painting but morphed
into a representational one.
I love the relfections, the moody clouds,
the mysterious horizon,
and the depiction of the sand ready for my bare feet.

If interested, please let me know:

Summer Celebration

Oil, 12" x 12" $400

This painting is part of a series of eight pieces
all in same palette and size.
For the series I wanted to explore composition,
a limited palette (three colors + black and white),
line, and mark-making.
As far as composition, I was looking to make
areas of interest (with interesting details) as well as
areas of space where the eye could rest.
As far as color, my interest was to incorporate
saturation, de-saturation, transparency, and opaqueness.
I'm unusually pleased with the results.
It can take months to produce a painting
I'm really happy with. This one is one of those rarities.

LMK if interested in this painting.

Summer Garden

Oil on panel, $250
12" x 12"

With the sun sky-high, glaring into our eyes,
new grass growing, ponds beckoning,
this piece just says "summer" to me.

Rock Wall

Acrylic on Heavy Watercolor Paper, 6" x 6"
$75

Lately I've been exploring the palette of
light ultramarine blue, yellow oxide, pyrrole red,
titanium white, and blue Stabilo pencil.
Applying paint in shapes that seem to form themselves,
adding some transparency for depth,
providing a pathway via the white areas -
mostly this happens intuitively.
Sometimes I have to study and ask if it's finished.
Mostly I just have fun playing with paint
and feeling happy when the outcome looks pleasing.

Take Time to Play

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 24"

Blues and Greens go so well together, don't they?
This painting depicts a playful attitude - at least
that's what I was going for!

In our American culture, we reward achievement
which is a good thing. But not the only thing.
Play is important for all ages.
And I hope this painting gives the viewer
a reminder to do something just for the fun of it,
and feel the freedom of doing so.

Serenity

"Serenity"
Oil on Canvas, 20" x 16" $700

I don't really like to name my abstract paintings
because I hesitate to give a viewer
a prejudice as to what it signifies.
My hope is that each individual
will respond to abstract work
in his or her own individual way.

Having said that, I do believe
that this painting is serene.

Celebrate

Oil, $600
12" x 12"

I felt like celebrating as this painting came together.
One of my goals in painting is to express joy.
I feel like I succeeded with this one.

Coastal Storm, Abstract Seascape

Oil, 12" x 12" $600

I wanted to capture the motion and feeling
of what's happening in the ocean
during a storm.
I love storms, by the way.
So, I used large brushes to give a sense
of the large wave shape,
and added orange elements
to indicate the sealife
under the water.

Mini Beach Abstract

Oil on Arches Oil Paper, $150
6" x 7.5"

This started as a strictly abstract strata-composition
painting,
and morphed into a semi-abstract one.
It takes me to my favorite beach in South Carolina.
I hope it transports you somewhere you love, too.
