Passage, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10", Oil, $150
Day 30 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

The challenge is completed, and was so beneficial to me.
I love "having" to paint every single day;
though of course there are those days where it's difficult,
I am exhilarated by the discipline.
Concentrating primarily on landscapes,
I hope I have learned something this past month.
Trying to keep the viewer's eye moving around within the canvas
was one goal; color harmony is always another.
Now I have to decide on a challenge for February.
I'm thinking of two paintings a day for 28 days.
Crazy?

16" x 20", Oil, $600
Day 29 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Mostly painted with pure pigment oil sticks,
with a little traditional oil paint and brush work,
another fun one to bring together.
Lots of layers of paint, so AZ sun will need to bake it dry.
Loving complimentary colors these days.

Coconuts, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 8", Oil, $125
Day 28 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Swaying in the ocean breeze, this colorful palm could be dancing.
Light is filtering through at noon, and the coconuts
grab all the attention.
The challenge of painting a new painting every day for 30 days
has been exhilarating, and I'm looking forward to a February challenge.
Painted with juicy pure pigment oil sticks, this little guy is looking for a home.

12" x 16", Oil, $600

Day 27 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Today was a day of struggle with painting and life in general.
But I'm happy with the way this one turned out, and feel that I found a sweet spot
with this particular painting of the ocean.

Day 26 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Breakthrough, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 8" x 1.5", Oil, $150
Day 23 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

I really enjoyed exploring the abstract quality of this contemporary
landscape today, experimenting with palette knife and
color harmony.
The 1.5" sides are painted in same colors, i.e.,
the "field" continues around the sides, as does the sky.

8" x 10", Oil, $150
Day 22 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

This painting was layered with juicy pure pigment oil sticks,
traditional oil paints, and copper leaf.
I'm happy with the abstract quality especially in the background.
Trees remain a favorite subject for me.

Key West Sunset, Beach and Ocean Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

12" x 24" Oil, $400
Day 20 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Painting in the morning is SOO much better than painting in the evening.
Why can I not make myself paint in the morning more often?!
My painting buddy came over this morning with an extra hot latte
from my favorite coffee place (Village Coffee)
to paint!
YES!
So I had to paint in the morning and let everything else go...
It was wonderful, and I was so happy after doing this ocean painting.
Lots of juicy R&F oil pigment on this baby, so it will take a few weeks to dry.
If you want this one for your very own, please lmk:

Atlantic Beach, Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

12" x 16," Oil, $250
Day 17 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

This challenge has inspired, stretched, and thrilled me.
It IS a challenge to get a new painting produced each day,
but the juices are flowing, and I really don't want to do much else.
And painting the beach and one of those funny gulls is pure joy.

Florida Sand Dunes, Abstract Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

24" x 30," Mixed Media, $700
Day 16 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Today I started a figurative painting that I'm really happy with,
but alas, not enough time today to finish it.
So this is my substitute for Day 16,
a mixed media piece I have been slowly completing over the last several months.
Having grown up in Florida, the beach still calls,
and I like the sense of sea oats that the foreground paper brings.
The sand dunes partially hide the water but lead to those waves.
I also like the ambiguity of the sand line/wave feeling.

Phoenix Sunset, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 8" Oil on Canvas Panel, $125
Day 15 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Before I moved "out west," I thought those paintings of
impossibly colored sunsets were pretty fake looking.
Now that I live here in Phoenix, I am still taken aback
~ at least once a week ~
at the splendor and rich color of our skies at day's end.

Abstract Seascape 21, Abstract Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6"x8", Oil on Panel, $125
Day 13 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Well, I set out to make an abstract seascape,
with watery sky feeling, and possibly an intracoastal waterway vibe.
I like it tonight; who knows how I'll feel about it in the cold, hard objective
morning?

Happy Birthday, Contemporary Still Life Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8"x8"x1.5", Oil, $125
Day 12 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

It has been a challenge just getting in my studio these past
few days,
but I'm always happy once I finally can paint.
This luscious cupcake was painted with pure pigment oil sticks,
which is why the colors are so vibrant.  No fillers
diffusing the color.

Pink Pineapple, Contemporary Still Life Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8"x10" Oil on Canvas Panel, $150
Day 11 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

This one would be categorized in my "Just For Fun" series,
obviously I'm not taking myself to seriously with this painting.
I wanted to give the pineapple some attitude and a gestural quality,
and certainly a contemporary feel.

Moon Shine, Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

10"x10"x1.5", Oil, $375
Day 8:  CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Just finished this painting about 10 minutes ago; still have to wash
the brushes!
This seascape was pure joy to create;
painted with R&F pure pigment sticks and traditional tube paints,
I started it the other day, and finished it tonight.
The Richeson oil color - Brilliant Yellow Light -
works well for "lit" areas of seafoam and clouds.

Forest, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

12" x 16", Acrylic on Stretched Canvas, $400

Day 7: Challenge 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

So this was NOT painted today; this contemporary landscape
was finished a few weeks ago.
The painting I worked on today is about 95% finished,
but life circumstances intervened before I could put the final
strokes on the canvas.  Life has a way, doesn't it?

Ocean Storm, Abstract Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

11" x 14", Oil, $400
Day 6:  Challenge 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Switching gears from North Carolina country scenes,
to seascapes.
The storms and cold weather must be kicking up some waves
in my old stompin' grounds near Jacksonville, Florida.
Painted with brushes and palette knives,
R&F pigment sticks and traditional tube oils,
it was fun imagining the sun being overcome by
the stormy weather, the waves sliding over the sand.
Glad to be a desert rat today in Phoenix.

Horsepasture River Barn 2, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

20" x 20" x 1.5" Oil, $600
Day 4 of CHALLENGE 30/30
30 Paintings in 30 Days

Trying different techniques on the same subject,
this barn in North Carolina.
This was painted primarily with R&F pure pigment sticks
as well as some traditional oil paint.
What I am liking about this 30 day challenge
is that I am REQUIRED to paint everyday.
So laundry, vacuuming, errands, etc.
all have to wait.  Maybe until February.
(I'm already planning to have an everyday painting challenge in February.)
