Red Cosmos Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

18" x 24" x 1"
Oil on Canvas, $400

My friend Cynthia gave me a book yesterday:
The Happiness Project
by Gretchen Rubin
which I am looking forward to getting into
after I finish a couple of books I'm currently reading.
Has anyone read it?  And...what's your take-away?

With regards to choosing what to paint, and how,
I've been struck by a couple of simple quotations recently:

"I paint to please myself and the pleasure is contagious."
Don Putnam

"You're on your own, and you know what you know.
And you are the one who'll decide where to go."
Dr.  Seuss

Well, these two quotes reflect how I feel about art.
Galleries want their artists to keep their art within a certain "look."
I don't seem to be able to stay within any such restraints.
I say, "Make the art you want to make right now."

  1. This is lovely. And I agree with you...if I had to force my art to look a certain way, it's not very good and it's not me. I think your art is wonderful Amy. Keep doing as you do!
