Roses for Mom, Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

Since I'm a little ADD (maybe a lot), I was framing paintings
as I was gardening.  I found the perfect new frame for this little
5" x 7 " painting of roses.
So for Day 5 of Tanzania 2013,
this little framed painting is yours - or your
mom's or your girlfriend...for Mother's Day,
birthday, just because you love her...
for $150.
LMK if interested:

Roses for Mom, Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

So my morning to-do list just depressed me, so...
I decided to do a little gardening.
I transplanted some aloe pups,
planted geraniums that had been waiting patiently in their
plastic pots since last week,
and planted some flower seeds:
bluebells, chocolate flower, and California poppy.
I'm not much of a gardener but this year I wanted to try to have
a little color as summer arrives and begins to dry everything to brown.

We artists had a great time at On The Edge Gallery today:
lots of art talk, learning about one another's artwork,
discussions on the Book of Job,
visitors bearing gifts (thank you for the beautiful frame, Maryann!),
super coffee from Cartel,
and all around encouragement and camaraderie.
AND I brought home two new beautiful pieces of art for our home.
I'm a fortunate young lady!

Beach Thinking, Figurative Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Oil, $500
I re-worked this painting, and am happier now because of
better color harmony, as well as a more interesting sky.
LMK what you think.
The last two days have been great:
heavenly weather, blooming cacti all over the place,
excellent students who just make my day,
a sale of one of my favorite (and I think best) paintings,
the making of a new friend who lives close by,
some artwork started that's coming along well,
a check-in call from my dear friend who's an undercover agent
(I can't even give you her code name - you know who you are 007!)

Student Work:

Look at these paintings in various stages of finishing:
These girls are naturals; and I get to "teach" them!
I love my job. seriously.

BTW if you want to have the painting of the lady thinking on the beach,
just LMK at

Holidays, Still Life Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Oil, $500

I have painted on this one off and on for many years,
and I think I finally completed it to my satisfaction.
It's been a strange day, some wonderful happenings in my life,
but some very disturbing events in the world.

On a mundane note, the business side of art-making is a challenge for me.
Lately I have felt that I am de-valuing my, lowering the prices
primarily to make it affordable, as well as to provide income for more art supplies.
So I am returning to my previous prices - nearly anyway.

Finally, please check out the "Page" above entitled
PRINTS OF ARTWORK.
Up to this point I have had three paintings printed,
each with a limited edition of 30, each signed and numbered.
I value your input and so ask that you LMK
of any of my artwork that you would like to see printed.
The quality of the work is first class;
it is my understanding that the establishment I am using
does the prints for Phoenix Art Museum's gift store.
The print comes with a beautiful mat in measurements to fit
standard size frames at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and online frame suppliers.

Serenity, Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Oil, $600

I have re-named this painting and am having it custom-framed.
If it doesn't sell this week to any of my dear visitors,
it is going to an architectural firm's office in Phoenix
to be on display along with a few of my other paintings.
Let me know if you are interested in this one.
The many layers give it a glow and a dreamy state.

Today In Paradise, Luke 23:43, Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

11" x 14", Oil, $120

One of my favorite verses in the New Testament is:
"Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."
Luke 23:43
My painting cannot portray what Paradise will be like,
but this is a work done intuitively,
rather than with a specific vision in mind,
and so it is spiritual to me in nature.
I hope it will speak to you in some way,
or that you will have some response to this piece of expression.
If interested in purchasing, please contact me at

Carmel Path, Seascapes and Landscapes by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 8" Oil, $195

I have been working on this composition for a couple of paintings,
and a couple of months.  I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out.
I want to be there, listening to the waves,
feeling the sun on my skin,
reveling in the blues of the ocean and the planes of the rocks.

Atlantic Ocean, Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10" Oil on Linen, $195

I have only been able to paint in little bits of time the last few days,
and our Aussie continues to lick off any oil paintings she can reach.
So...now I have to remember to keep the studio door closed
so that my paintings are not "re-done"
nor is the dog harmed from EATING OIL PAINT.
Sheesh.
She took off a layer of paint on a large cloudscape with mountains below,
and I may have to incorporate some of her "improvements."
Anyway, as for the painting above,
I love the look of the ocean as a storm is rolling in;
the waves start to flicker a bit on top,
and one senses a roiling beneath the waves.
I hope I've captured some of the excitement I feel at these moments.
If you are interested in purchasing this painting,
please contact me at
And please visit my website where you can view some of my work
gallery-style without all the musings:

The Joy Tree, Contemporary Landscapes and Trees by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

Trees, Oceans, Colors, Life-Giving Encounters,
Faith, Vibrancy, Mindfulness ~~
So much has been going through my mind the last few weeks
with regard to life and with regard to painting.
Is it even possible to sift through the events of one especially busy
crazy week
and bake it all together as a cake that makes sense?
I don't think so...it's too complicated - this life in 2013.
But I want to pick out a few strands and look at them.

This week contained several stressors - some good, some not so much;
new challenges are great stressors, teenagers not always;
but my attention has been being turned to more mindfulness
and less wastefulness.
Because I am making thoughtful choices about what I am eating,
I am savoring the flavor and consistency of each bite.
Because I am being reminded that the girls are growing up,
I am trying to not let unwholesome talk come out of my mouth,
but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs,
that it may benefit those who listen.
Because I am intently focusing on turning 60 in a few months,
I want to use my time wisely
so that I have only a minimum of regrets and plenty of great memories.
Also the art I do wants to have a purpose:
does it express my convictions?
does it inspire others to put THEIR  true selves onto a support?
Here's a tough one:  is my style developing into that which is is meant to be?

How much fun am I allowed to have when making artwork, and still be considered to be
developing my work?

Please send in your answers, and my favorite may choose a painting that I will
ship for free to your home.*

BTW this little piece of joy goes for $175
If interested, please contact me at
amy.whitehouse@me.com

*I will make a list of 10 paintings from which the winner may choose
in a page above listed Purpose of Making Art.

Carmel, CA; Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Oil, $700

Mark took me to Carmel for my 50th,
and I'm still painting from the photos I took during that trip.
But that was nearly 10 years ago...so maybe
I need to return and get more photos?
Yes, I think that would be wise.

I've been a little manic with my painting lately;
I have never enjoyed it as much as I am presently.
And once I start, it's quite difficult to stop;
plus, the R&F pigment sticks make painting
such a party.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog;
I love checking in with whomever is actually perusing
my site, and would really love hearing from you
about what you are doing creatively today.
