Dance of the Palms, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 8" Oil on Canvas Panel, $125

I'm reading this new book on Painting with your Intuition;
it's beautifully bound with gorgeous contemporary, personal artworks.
So...how does one take this somewhat esoteric method
and indeed paint from intuition?
It's a question I've rolled around in for years;
guess the answer is - just paint...
with that in mind.

I saw something on the bulletin board up at NAU music building this morning
(before returning to the inferno)
that went something like this:

Lonely?   Practice
Out of sorts?   Practice
Tired?  Practice
Broke?   Practice
and so on

Here's mine:

Teenagers wearing you down to the level of your carpet?  Paint
Wanting to eat donuts from Bosa, but trying to lose weight? Paint
Drowning in debt but have no income? Paint
Lethargic with 120 degree temps? Paint
Don't know what to paint?  Paint

Could you make a list?  I bet you could!
Please share, please do.

Surf, Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 8" Oil on Canvas Panel, $125

Well, just looking at images of the ocean makes me feel better;
today it was 118 degrees, tomorrow it's supposed to be 120,
123 in a town a little west of Phoenix.

I know we've had these temps before, it just feels so
HOT.

Okay, I got that out of my system.
If anyone wants to come over and drink iced tea and paint
pictures of the beach and the ocean....just LMK!

California Dreamin', Contemporary Landscape of Palm Trees by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Acrylic, $600

Lots of layers of paint so lots of texture; I painted this
over the course of a couple of weeks,
adding a little at a time.
Our temperature here in the lovely desert is supposed to be
117 degrees by Friday.
I am definitely dreaming of the California coastline -
or actually ANY coastline.

My young student Micah wowed us all with his artwork today;
I wish I'd taken a photo of his painting - truly lovely.

New Arrangement, Contemporary Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

20" x 20" x 1.5" Oil, $700

The dog days of summer are definitely upon us Phoenicians.
Though I know I have some free time,
I'm not getting as much done as I thought I would.
I'm enjoying the four books I'm reading,
but seem to fall asleep each time I read.
Or watch TV.
So, yes, the answer is, get back to the studio.

Serenity, Contemporary Still LIfe Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Acrylic on Canvas, $600

Moving toward more abstract work,
as well as intuitive painting.
It calls for a bit of courage on my part,
as so many of my art friends can be a bit
disdainful of abstract art.
Actually it's harder than representational painting,
but we don't know that until we try our hand at abstraction.

Beach Dreams, Seascape and Beach Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas Panel, $125

107 degrees today here in the Phoenix desert,
and the same predicted for the rest of the week.
I'm definitely day-dreaming about the beach,
and "traveling" there via the paintbrush.

A Walk in the Park, Contemporary Trees Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" Acrylic on Canvas, $600

For some reason this one reminds me of walking down the park section that leads into
the Champs-Elysee in Paris,
where I was fortunate to spend a year studying,
oh about a hundred years ago.

Anyway, I loved the freedom I felt while painting this one,
and I hope it stirs something in the viewer.

Miami Heat, Landscape of Palm Trees by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

30" x 30" x 1.5", Oil on Canvas, $800

This painting is done with acrylics and a tar gel medium
to give it texture and pizazz.
The fiery red orange palm in the foreground
was painted with quite a bit of tar gel so that it stands out
as the focal point.
The 1.5" edges are painted all around in the same fashion
as the background, so it is ready to hang without a frame.
It may be framed if desired.

Take Time to Play

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 24" Blues and Greens go so well together, don't they? This painting depicts a playful attitude - at least...
