Early Morning Hike, Contemporary Landscape Paintings by Amy Whitehouse

6"x6" Oil, $150

Hiking early Sunday the air was nearly cool and the mist
was mesmerizing over the mountains.
I wanted to capture the flavor of the hike,
the beauty of nature in
the Valley of the Sun.

May Flowers, Contemporary Floral Paintings by Amy Whitehouse

9"x12" Oil, $250

Taking a break from very realistic,
I filled the canvas with colors
then made my image primarily by painting
the negative spaces.
I want to do another.

Sea Oats at Sunset, Beach and Ocean Paintings by Amy Whitehouse

6" x 6" Oil, $95

I'm loving painting on these 6" x 6" Ampersand panels.

Every day I'm excited to try a new scene on these
small, slippery canvas boards. I get new finishes and
am challenged to produce different textures.
In this one I wanted the sky to have soft edges
and the sea oats in the foreground to stand out with harder edges.

6" x 6" Oil, $175

Looking back over my photographs taken from

Cute Dog, Pet Commissions by Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10" Oil, Not For Sale

I love doing pet commissions!
This one I had to re-do completely,
which was momentarily frustrating,
but am so happy with the final result.

This painting was commissioned by someone
who is surprising her friend
with this portrait as a gift.

Please consider having me paint your pet
or a loved one's pet.

Daffodil Trio, Contemporary Floral Paintings by Amy Whitehouse

Oil, 6" x 8" $150

Lately I've been thinking more about
the structure of specific flowers,
as well as the way light falls on my subjects.
Composition is always uppermost in my mind,
and I want to give the background some interest.
I love the neutral foil to the bright blooms.

Orange and Blue, Contemporary Still Life Paintings by Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10" Oil, $150

For me drawing is a discipline. I want to get right into color.
And so I struggle with proportions and symmetry.
I practice those elements with cups and saucers because
the proportions are different every time,
and these are symmetrical objects.
Just in case you wonder why I do so many cups and saucers.

Irma's Gift, Contemporary Still Life Paintings by Amy Whitehouse

8" x 8" Oil $200

Last September I experienced Hurricane Irma
up close and personally.
We were without power for a few days,
but fortunately had flashlights and water,
so we were fine.

After the hurricane, the beach was a treasure trove.
We found several large conch shells
unlike any I'd ever found.

Painting it was challenging and gratifying.
Something that was brought up from the deeps
had amazing color, shape, texture, and subtlety.

Take Time to Play

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 24" Blues and Greens go so well together, don't they? This painting depicts a playful attitude - at least...
