Purple Flower, Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

36" x 36" x 2.5" Oil, $1100

I have been working on this painting for the last week.
There is a little more green - a leaf - at the top, as well as more of the leaves
in the lower left corner.  It's a little hard to photograph as it is a BIG square.
I'm really happy with the outcome, though I couldn't seem to adequately capture it
with my camera.
The background is a light buttery yellow, 2.5" edges painted the same
so it hangs easily and with contemporary flair with no frame.

Making art is such a gift, gratifying, exciting -
I never know exactly what I'll end up with and enjoy the surprises.
I understand why Vincent VanGogh went without food -
and nearly everything else - in order to buy paint.

I have several paintings in my head.
And I'm looking forward to seeing how they play out.
Stay tuned, won't you?

Keep Calm & Live at the Beach Contemporary Animal Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

12"x12"x2" Oil Painting, $150

I'm already missing the beach.  During my time at Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island,
I would take a late afternoon walk north towards Georgia and almost make it to my birth state.
There was water between me and The Peach State, but I was close.
Anyway around 6 p.m. hundreds and hundreds of sea gulls
congregated near this area.
They are beautifully designed creatures and I enjoyed trying to capture them
with my camera.
Lots of attitude in these guys.
LMK if you want this one:

12"x16" Mixed Media on Canvas, $295
To purchase this painting please contact me at
I finished this painting last year, I think;
this week has been filled with other kinds of creativity!

After getting the teenagers home from school, it was time for our afternoon swim.
Taking care of Maggie this week has brought lots of smiles
and special hugs.  How does a baby have so much love to give?
Anyway we're grateful to have a 1 yr. old pattering around our home.

from Phoenix Photo Lab,
the same Lab that Phoenix Art Museum uses for its prints.
I highly recommend this quality Photo Lab;
several of my artist friends are using this same establishment.
The paper I chose is heavy, creamy, lovely.
I have signed and numbered each print.
VERY VERY HAPPY with this new product.

Cactus Blooms Southwest Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

24" x 36" Oil on Canvas, $250

Feeling a little schizophrenic (in the common use of the term):
I'm reading  a book on Francis of Assisi and trying to take away something
I can use in my life.
It begins with exploring his journey to radically simplify his life,
really know the voice of God,
and commit to poverty.
Okay...
in the midst of texting, voice mails, e-mails, driving teenagers to different charter schools,
making orthodontic/dental cleaning/haircut/pediatrician/ appointments,
changing said appointments because of conflicts with OTHER commitments,
grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, teaching piano lessons,
teaching painting lessons,
beginning a new co-op art gallery,
exercising to increase my energy,
returning phone calls,
posting artwork online to several online galleries,
MAKING ART,
letting the dogs in and out 25 times a day,
sending out birthday cards,
mailing paintings that have sold (thank You, Lord),
reading/praying/journaling...
where do I begin to simplify...
and "poverty"?  I don't think so...
what about the orthodontist/music teacher/birthday gifts,
not to mention electricity, gasoline, FOOD...
Well...when I paint, all of these concerns and "ought to's" disappear
and I am one mentally healthy camper.

Beach Retreat, Photograph from Fernandina Beach, FL

Recently our family spent a couple of weeks in Florida,
visiting family, friends, and playing in the ocean.
Towards the end of our stay, my husband had to return with the girls ahead of me,
 because they were starting school.
So, that meant I had 3 days alone to paint.
I took a lot of pictures for reference material from which to paint
back in Arizona.
This was one of my favorite photographs of the lot.
It shows the path to the beach and ocean from the beach house
generously provided by old friends, Rosanne and Nina.
Now, forgive me if the following analogy sounds trite, but, hey,
I'm trying.
This path looks like the way to beach nirvana, right?
And is was, being near a state park and kind of out in the middle of nowhere,
the beach was always empty of people or nearly so.
The views were spectacular, the sound and sight of the waves so comforting.
BUT,
one of the afternoons as I was making my way along this sandy way,
suddenly a large (medium?) snake crossed the path about 10 inches in front of me.
O.K. so where's the analogy?
Life this side of heaven is never nirvana.  It is always a mix of
COMFORT, LOVE, DELIGHT, FUN, BEAUTY,
and
DANGER, FEAR, FRUSTRATION, HURTS, UGLINESS.
This week has brought blessings and disappointments,
affirmations and discouragements.
I'm so glad God is sovereign and I have the choice to rest in Him.

Watchin' the Storm Roll In, Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10" Oil Painting, $175

My husband relaxing as the storm comes...our favorite time of the day
at the beach.
We are back home in Phoenix where it was 118 degrees yesterday.
It cooled down to 115 today. Yippee.

Why did we leave the beach to come home to this weather?
The kids' schools started August 1st.
Yeah...I know.

If you would like to have this beach scene in your home,
please contact me at
amy.whitehouse@me.com

Thank you for visiting.  I do appreciate it.

Just home from Florida beaches. Lots of painting, some plein aire, but mostly inside
away from the sand getting into everything, flies, heat & major humidity.
Despite 111 degrees in Phoenix, it's great to be home.
I love my home.

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 24" Blues and Greens go so well together, don't they? This painting depicts a playful attitude - at least...
