serenity, and stillness.

I purposefully employed large areas of quiet

to give the eye places to rest

after exploring the areas of interest.

This painting is done in a "high key"

which means primarily light colors.

I wanted to do a grid painting

with primary colors and a little variation.

I wanted to make each component interesting.

And I wanted a free-flowing grid structure

rather than a tight, perfectly measured grid.

the kids at play on the beach adorable.

Now that we live near the beach (YAY),

I just have to do a few beach and ocean scenes

in addition to my abstracts.

I was pleased with this one.

I began by painting the scene in black and white

until I got the values right. Then I matched the colors

in value to what was on the canvas.
