Imagination, Contemporary Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

11" x 14", Oil, $60

Day 7 of 60 days of $60 paintings ~
inspired by my third grade teacher, Miss Fountain,
who had us imagine flowers and then create them on paper.
Dear Miss Fountain has had a lasting impact on me,
as I am still imagining flowers and creating contemporary pieces with them.
This painting is framed in blue wood that is same color as dark part of flowers.

Baby Cactus, Contemporary Southwest Landscape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 8" x 1.5", Oil, $175

The intense Arizona sun obliterates the lit part of this little
barrel cactus.
The mean spikes were painted with the edge of a palette knife,
and the soft petals with a bristle brush.
I was going for the contrast of the papery, lovely flower
surrounded by the brutal thorns,
and the bright, bright sun
that makes it all such a scintillating scene.

Because I seem to be having trouble with the

Beach Walk, Abstract Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20", Oil, $500

This not-too-abstract seascape painting was created from a photograph
shared by my favorite high school English teacher.
The photo was taken at Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and was a bit of a challenge.
But I'm very happy with the result.
I used the medium Megilp by Gamblin,
and worked on it for several days to get the transparency of the water.
