Ocean at Sunset, Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

24" x 30," Mixed Media, $600

This painting was such a delight to put together.
My studio looked like a tornado had struck,
papers everywhere, paints, jars of water, brushes,
gold leaf particles drifting around...
wait a minute...it looks like that most of the week.
I do clean up before my Saturday art classes.
Speaking of which, my students were on fire yesterday.
Here is one finished by Matt:

Doesn't it look like a Monet that you would see in Paris?
I am so totally impressed with this young man.

But getting back to ME,
if you would love to have the above mixed media painting in your home,
please get in touch with me at amy.whitehouse@me.com

If you would love to have Matt's painting,
you'll have to go through me too.
I think I've just decided to be his agent.

Have a great week
and do something creative EVERY DAY THIS WEEK.

Poppy Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

16" x 20" x 1.5" Oil, $500

This painting was a pleasure to do this morning.
I absolutely love poppies, but can't seem to grow them
in our pitiful soil at our house.
Making art continues to feed my soul,
calm my worried heart,
bring gladness to my day.
I also love to see others
discover the pleasures of being creative.
JUST DO IT!

It was a birthday weekend in our home, with daughter Rachel

Miami Heat 2

30"x 30"x 1.5" Acrylic, $500

This painting has been worked on for a long time.
I like trying for artwork that is neither purely representational,
nor purely abstract.

There is a lot of textural interest in this painting,
tar gel was used to highlight specific parts,
some heavy paint drips are left - all to keep the viewer involved.
What I like best about this kind of artwork
is that new things are discovered from time to time,
and the viewer can be transported to
new places - or old places.

Perfect Apple

5"x5"x1.5" Acrylic & Glitter
$60

I haven't been in my studio since Sat. due to other obligations.
Lots of mother/household/etc. things have had to be done.
I get just a little crabby when I can't "do my art."
So....it's really high on my priority list
to get to my art materials tomorrow.
I have a date with my daughter Rachel and a dear friend
to make home-made cinnamon buns
first thing tomorrow morning.
So the painting will have to wait until those
yummy delicacies get baked.
Then I plan to attack some canvas until I calm down.
How is your creative self doing?

Sunset on Beach, Seascape Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

20" x 30" Oil, $200

The endless supply of cloud formations are ever-inspiring.
Likewise are the reflections on a beach.

If anyone reading this is NOT doing something creative - every day -
we need to talk.
You don't know how life-lifting it is until you do it.
Just do it.
Then please share, so we can be motivated by each other's
art-making.
EVERYONE has creativity within because EVERYONE
is made in the image of God.
And He is the Grand Creator.
If you need a pen to write, I'll send you one.
If you don't have paints, I'll mail some to you.
If you don't have time, give up a tv show.
Seriously, get up and get going.
It will bring new life to you, those near you, and possibly
COUNTLESS others.

Tulip, Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

20" x 20" Oil, $550

My art students were stupendous today.
I was hoping to get a photo of some of them with their day's work,
but it didn't happen, so I'll try again next week.
When I woke up this morning
I was besieged with fear:
how many students are coming?
do I have anything to really teach them?
how long will it take to get the studio ready?

Before I know it, the students begin to arrive
and the studio is buzzing,
I am trying to get each one started
and we're off to the races.

It's always like that, but there was one great difference today.
My oldest student, who's been with me for only a couple of months,
thanked me as he was painting away,
and expressed that he had "learned so much."
Thanks be to God.  I was so grateful.

That's all I got today, folks.

Project Pending

I thought if I posted a photo of my disaster of a studio,
I would be embarrassed enough to organize it and make it
less cluttered.
We'll see if that works.

At the very least I have to make space for tomorrow's art classes!
YIKES!

"Supplication" and "Reflection" Abstract Oil Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 24" x 1.5" Oil, $125

8" x 16" x 3/8" Oil, $95

Two abstract paintings.
I've heard many people, myself included, look at an abstract painting
and say something like,
"I could do THAT," or "My 5 yr. old could do THAT,"
or, "What is THAT?"

Well, then I tried to do some abstract art.
I'm here to tell you that making an original piece of abstract art is
NOT THAT EASY, Mister!
But, they are way fun, and can tap into inner subconscious peaceful places.
Challenges are good.

Florida Sea Gull Animal Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

12"x12"x1.5" Oil on Canvas, $150

Obviously I'm into sea gulls right now;
painting them takes me back to the beach
and gets me out of Monsoon Season here in the valley.
For those who haven't experienced this dreadful season,
it's about having high temps and high humidity,
but virtually no precipitation.
Not my favorite.

Anyway, this painting has the 1.5" edges painted the same color
as the bird's shadow.
Because it is such a sturdy canvas,
it can be placed anywhere,
on a kitchen counter, bookshelf, desk,
tabletop, CREDENZA (just thought of that word :)
and because an oil painting is relatively
indestructible,
it can be moved around everyday and won't suffer at all.
You can even hang it with a long headed tack on the wall.
I change the art around in my home weekly.
That way it's NOTICED.

If you want this beautiful bird, contact me at

"You lookin' at me?" Animal Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10" Acrylic on Canvas Panel, $125

I've been having lots of fun trying to express some of the personality
of seagulls.
While taking a walk on the beach this summer, we saw a fisherman
casting his line out into the ocean,
and immediately there was a seagull nipping off the bait,
and getting caught by the hook.
We stopped to see what would happen to the quick-acting, nimble, but unlucky bird,
and fortunately the fisherman was able to free him.
Off he flew.
